If you’re a conservative, you need to listen to this interview
I don’t like to refer to public figures as “the next [insert name here]” because it trivializes the person’s individual story. However, sometimes you come across people who you admire or support for many of the same reasons as someone else, so comparisons are inevitable. It’s hard to listen to Dan Bongino on the campaign trail in Maryland and not be reminded of recent conservative political heroes like Senator Marco Rubio or Congressman Paul Ryan.
Dan, having been part of the NYPD and the U.S. Secret Service, has a uniquely compelling back story but when he talks about common sense economics and how to put the country back on the right path, he evokes the same kind of excitement and hope for the future that Rubio and Ryan do.
Yesterday, Dan did an interview with WCTR radio in Chestertown, Maryland which really illustrates all that I’ve said above. If he weren’t running in the state perpetually written off by the national conservative movement, Dan Bongino would already be a household name and topic of discussion on all the big talk radio shows. Conservatives need to shed their preconceptions about Maryland and get behind Dan Bongino.
I challenge you. Listen to the interview and tell me electing Dan Bongino is not worth the fight and that you’d rather concede a Senate seat to the likes of Ben Cardin.
WCTR Interview with Senate Candidate Dan Bongino
Dan Bongino Interviewed on the Glenn Beck Radio Show
It is so great to see a Maryland conservative getting some national attention. I hope this translates into a lot of campaign contributions for Dan. Please visit www.bongino.com and donate to Dan’s campaign. We must take back the Senate from the left, and electing a guy like Bongino would be a major win for Maryland and for America.
As you’ll hear in this interview, Dan is an unabashed supporter of Israel as well as staunch conservative. His commitment to this race is evident in the fact that he left a very promising Secret Service career (as well as his pension and benefits) to represent the people of Maryland in the United States Senate. Listen to the interview and check out Dan’s campaign web site. Follow him on Twitter @dbongino (he does all his own social media posting, so engage him and find out what he’s all about for yourself).
If you’re a reporter, blogger or a podcaster, you definitely want to interview this guy.
GLENN: …So, why are you– why would you leave such an honorable thing and now go into politics?BONGINO: Well, it was a huge risk, Glenn. There’s no question about it. Resigned. I didn’t actually retire. So, I left my pension, my benefits, my healthcare. I have a pregnant wife. I left that on the line. It was a huge risk, but I’ve always followed politics. I’ve never been able to get involved due to the Hatch Act, but I just figured it’s really time for real people who have lead real lives, held real leadership positions to get out of the locker room and let’s get on the field and throw a pass.
Constitutional Conservatives for Maryland PAC launched
A new conservative political action committee has launched in Maryland with the goal of swaying close state elections to the conservative side. From the Constitutional Conservatives for Maryland (CC for MD) site:
After the 2010 election several Constitutionally minded conservative activists sat down together and looked at a political analysis done on the election. We found the following:
2 races were lost by less than 30 votes.
3 races were lost by less than 300 votes.
3 races were lost by 900.
1 race was lost by a little more than 1000.
After we knew these facts we realized that something needed to be done and that we were going to do it. A few thousand dollars early on in small campaigns like this could really buy a lot of name recognition and exposure. For many of these races especially the Delegate races that is all that is needed. We will be looking for Social and Fiscal conservatives and will settle for nothing less. We will not waste our time or your money on people who we don’t think can stand up to the forces at work.
Specifics about the PAC’s candidate vetting criteria and candidate questionnaires are forthcoming.
You can contribute to CC for MD via their web site or via snail mail PO Box 574, Pasadena, MD 21123.
Second Amendment advocates may be interested to know that CC for MD’s first fundraiser is a gun raffle. Chances on the Beretta A400 xPlor Unico shotgun may also be purchased at www.CCforMD.com or at various events around the state–$5 for one chance, $25 for 6, and $50 for 12.
Annapolis Conference Drawing Conservatives from Across Maryland
Yes, America, there are conservatives in Maryland.
Maryland CAN conference drawing grassroots activists from across the state
Hailing from all but five Maryland counties, grassroots conservatives of all stripes will hear discussions led by former Gubernatorial primary candidate Brian Murphy, former candidates for Congress Charles Lollar and Robert Broadus, newly sworn in Congressman Andy Harris, and State Delegate Ron George. Also on the agenda are Sheriff Jenkins of Frederick County, ACORN whistleblower Anita MonCrief, and the leader of Raging Elephants, Texas activist Claver Kamau-Imani
…
“We will have succeeded on Saturday if we are able to bring grassroots activists of all stripes together, many meeting for the first time, and go away with plans to work together and meet again,” concluded Trauernicht. “We hope MD CAN will serve as a bulletin board of sorts for all conservative interest groups in Maryland.”
For more information on the conference visit the MD CAN website here and check out the complete list of speakers for Saturday, or contact Ann Corcoran at 301-964-5442.
I’ll be attending the conference and will try to blog some video if I can. Stay tuned.
